About us

The DWA is currently a trade-only association

Remit of the DWA:

  • To provide a body that can represent the views of those involved in the retail and ownership of UK specification deactivated weapons.

  • To represent such views at all levels including to those who both make and enforce UK Law.

  • To liaise with other trade organisations within the gun trade to ensure that there is both recognition and representation of issues specific to deactivated weapons within wider discussions regarding firearms.

  • To establish a set of principles that members should both promote and endeavour to achieve within their trading.

The DWA is not a regulatory body. As indicated above, membership is subject to acceptance of a number of shared principles. If it is shown that an existing member is consistently failing to achieve these principles their membership may be revoked. This would be subject to review by the DWA governing body.

Principles – members should:

  • Comply with UK law, legislation and official guidance with regard to deactivated weapons.

  • Sell ONLY UK deactivated and certified weapons, i.e. those inspected by one of the two UK Proof Houses

  • Advertise their goods and services in a clear, honest and unbiased fashion.

  • As appropriate, comply with all UK distance selling regulations.

  • Provide whatever help and support they can to authorities where an official request is made for information relating to the sale of a deactivated weapon.

  • Support each other and the wider firearms industry.
